When I was 13 years old, my friends interrogated me before I could have lunch with them because of what they had read or seen in the media about people who looked like me. Research shows that Islamophobia is worse today than it was that day after 9/11, over twenty years ago. As a kidlit writer, educational media producer, and international development practitioner, I work with youth and the industries that serve them to increase understanding of underrepresented stories and promote inclusive narrative design. Below are some of the learning sessions and consulting services I offer. Each offering is customized based on the educational needs of the audience and can be delivered virtually or in-person based on location.

Audiences: Education, Non-Profit, Government, Production Houses, and Broadcasters
We will end our session with a Q&A, during which I welcome open dialogue about how together we can break stereotypes and barriers to better help young audiences see themselves reflected in each other’s stories.
Narmeen offered excellent insight into the power of storytelling while engaging us through her personal stories and research. She allowed us to think more critically about how to bridge cultural divides, reflect on who decides what stories get told, and ways of authentically telling stories about Muslim people and cultures.
